Save file gets corrupt because of an item

After the spider boss fight when you arrive at the BSAA camp. I turned the power on, saved the game and took the tactical tracker on the box.

The tracker completely freezes my game and when I restart and try to load the file, it gets stuck on the loading screen. I did it twice so it is the item causing it.

Do I need this item to continue or can I just leave it at the camp? Is there even a fix for it?
