Following up with creches

Hi all. My baby is on several creche waiting lists for September 2027. I keep seeing online that I should be calling up the creches every now and then to check on my place.

This is going to sound ridiculous but what am I supposed to be asking them when I call up? I dont want to be hassling them either but people seem to say it works to keep calling them. Am I just supposed to call and ask if im still on the list or what?
