Phone replacement

Hi guys I have the US variant with eSIM. I had an issue with my logic board and gave my phone for repair to Apple. They weren’t able to fix anything so they’re offering me a replacement, but because I’m in India they’re offering me an Indian replacement with a SIM card slot. I thought I would get a like for like replacement so I’m a bit confused on what the original policy is. If anyone’s gone through this before could you let me know if they only replace devices with variants available in that country?
