Help, please: how do I keep his e-collar/cone of shame on? He is able to whack it off no matter what we do

My 4 year old boy just got neutered. We were able to keep the cone on immediately while the anesthesia was still in his system.

Now he whacks it off. The vet suggested to put tape around the cone but he can always find a way out of it. Many times he will keep it on when we’re watching and remove it when we’re not.

We desperately need it on because he gets to lick his wounds. He lacks a lot of physical exercise and simulation because of the rest period our vet prescribed so he is really antsy to get out right now.
