H1B I-94 truncation issue – petition valid but I-94 expired. Anyone fixed this after expiration?
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to understand my options and would appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with something similar.
I’m currently on H-1B and based out of Dallas, Texas.
My situation:
• I entered the U.S. on Dec 26, 2024 in H-1B status.
• My I-797 approval notice is valid until June 2027.
• I presented the I-797 at the port of entry.
• However, my I-94 was issued only until July 18, 2025, which matches my visa stamp expiration instead of the petition validity.
Unfortunately I didn’t notice this issue until much later.
Currently I’m continuously employed with the same H-1B employer.
I’m based in Dallas, and from what I understand the DFW Deferred Inspection office does not handle corrections via email, so an in-person visit may be required.
My questions:
- Has anyone successfully corrected a truncated I-94 after it already expired?
- Did you fix it through CBP Deferred Inspection, and if so which office?
- Did anyone use another method?
- If you went in person to a CBP office, what was your experience?
I have my passport, visa, I-797 approval notice, I-94 record, and pay stubs ready.
Just trying to understand what options people have used recently to resolve this kind of I-94 truncation issue.
Any advice or similar experiences would really help.
Thanks!
