Looking for advice for a new rockhound, Planning on digging in Walker Valley in WA
My 6 year old is saying she wants to be a geologist when she grows up. I started looking into rockhounding to foster that interest. I then found out that Walker Valley is only 5 miles from our house. I went and scoped it out a little a couple days ago and the steep slope up to the cliff face and the nature of digging into the stone seem a little risky with a 6 year old. i saw there was a loop to go around to the top and was curious if that was a viable spot to dig around as well?
On another note, I have seen some Youtube videos that suggest picking rocks in streams is another good way to get some cool rocks. Does anyone know of a good rocky stream in the Mount Vernon-Bellingham area that has some good pickings?
I appreciate any tips or advice that you guys can give.
