How can I get Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons working on NixOS

As the title suggests, I'm trying to figure out how I can get my Joy-Cons (original, not the 2's) working on my NixOS laptop. I tried to simply pair them in `blueman-manager`, but while they appeared to pair, pressing L+R on either Joy-Con would not connect them together and the lights would keep flashing. Pressing SL+SR on a single joy-con wouldn't work either.
