Fluctuating thyroid levels and enlarged gland
Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism when I was in my early twenties. I’m now going on 36 and in the past year or so, my levels started going in the Hyper range. As a result, my doctor took me off of the Levothyroxine medicaction, and mentioned referring me to an endocrinologist if my levels didn’t start swinging back in the other direction.
I stopped taking my medication in October of last year, and in the last several months I’ve started getting itchy while in the shower, and in the past week or so I got the feeling of something stuck in my throat, as well as clothes feeling tighter around my neck, which led me to think it could be a goiter/nodule.
I got the results of my bloodwork back today, and my TSH levels are now in the normal range despite these potential symptoms showing up. The doctor felt my thyroid gland and looked down my throat and concluded that my thyroid was slightly enlarged.
I have another visit in July, but my doctor told me to come back earlier if I noticed anything else. For reference:
- My family has a history of thyroid issues (my mother had to have the radioactive iodine therapy)
- I have been regularly taking Levothyroxine medication since I was diagnosed
- I am a marijuana smoker. I was also taking delta 9 edibles but I discontinued them as of last year once I saw my thyroid levels going into hyper range.
Is this worth a visit to the endocrinologist?
