It's the Gilmore Girls effect, that quiet, caffeinated alchemy where a youth spent inhaling rapid-fire banter and armfuls of library books leaves you strangely predisposed to the great literary marathons. Somewhere between Lorelai's quips and Rory's bottomless bag of paperbacks, you've been training without knowing it.

So when Marcel Proust appears - all seven volumes of him, languid and labyrinthine, he doesn't feel like a mountain, but like an old acquaintance you've been circling toward for years. Reading him becomes less an act of ambition and more a slow, endless Stars Hollow conversation: part gossip, part philosophy, part weather report of the soul. And before you realize it, Joyce and Faulkner have moved in too, their spines leaning together like regulars at Luke's, waiting for you to sit down and stay awhile.

I have embarked on a rather intimidating journey; the kind that feels equal parts reckless and inevitable and decided to read Marcel Proust. His work sits before me like a long, winding road through a country I've only heard described in whispers and footnotes.

It's not just the weight of the pages, but the sense that I'm stepping into a time where memory folds in on itself, where sentences stretch like afternoon shadows, and where every detail demands to be savored. It feels less like starting a book and more like accepting an invitation to live at a different pace to linger, to notice, to remember.

If anyone would like to read along with me, please comment below or DM. I have them penguin classic edition, translated by C.K. Scott Moncrieff.
