My Hamster Moral Dilema

⭐ Hamster ⭐

I'm looking to buy a hamster. I'm slowly getting the supplies until I have prepared properly for one (finally bought a Bucastate 3.0 too :) )

Ive spoken to a few people now and I'm getting so many different responses. I don't know where to get a hamster 😭

I know the obvious answer would be a professional breeder, but I feel so conflicted. I do not want to contribute to rodent mills, but my single purchase of a hamster once every 2-3 years isn't going to make a significant impact (in no way does that justify it, but my point is I'm not making a significant financial impact to them). The hamsters in most pet stores live in horrible, stressful environments their whole lives - honestly I wouldn't even be surprised if they are euthanized if they aren't sold on time. And in my eyes I would rather take a hamster out of a horrible living situation, than one that is living in a suitable one.

Professional breeders on the other hand (or in my eyes), provide their hamsters with the proper care, environment, diet, enrichment. They will sell, and they're not at risk?

Ideally I'd love a rescue, but I have contacted locals and it's unlikely they will have any with how frequently they come across rescue hamsters. I'm more swayed to buying a pet store hamster at the moment, I'll feel like a AH for putting money in their pocket, but seeing how scared and stressed the hamsters are there is so heart breaking and it just makes me want to take them home.

I'd love absolutely any opinions on this because I've found quite a lot of interesting responses, and id like a good perspective on it before I make a decision :)
