PAIN PAIN PAIN

I had a root canal started on Thursday last week. Tuesday I went in to finish it. This hurts so BAAAAD. I can feel pain up to inside of my ear and can't sleep on the side I had it done. Is this normal? I don't know what to do. Being in pain for days has me irritated and crying at work. It sucks. Yes, I am taking pain medication. Yes, it doesn't go away fully. Yes, I have contacted the clinic and they said it's normal, but I don't believe it. It is my first time having a root canal so I have no clue. I'm also not a dentist so I don't know what's wrong or what to expect from it. I'm very angry and sad and in pain.
