Need advice
Hey people, I need some advice. First, a bit of background. I’m a 24-year-old guy doing a postgraduate degree. In my field, undergraduate is 5 years, so PG is common. I joined this university about 6 months ago and the course will finish in about 3–4 months. I’m currently single. I had a breakup last year after a long-distance relationship. There’s a girl in my batch (not my direct classmate though). She’s 23. She’s tall, petite, has curly “maggie” hair and big expressive eyes. We’re also from the same hometown. She’s currently in a long-distance relationship with a guy from her undergraduate university who lives about 400 km away. Our college is residential, so we see each other often. I’ve had a crush on her since the first day. Over time I’ve become part of her friend circle. We mostly hang out in groups. I’m generally a funny guy and she laughs at my jokes. I don’t flirt much or give her obvious special attention. Yesterday was Holi. I was a bit mischievous and splashed water on her with buckets a few times. She ran a lot but seemed to enjoy it and wasn’t angry. At one point I put a little mud on her face during the Holi chaos, but I also helped her wash it off afterwards. Nothing weird or over the line. Today in class she was wearing a pink kurti and looked really nice. When I got a chance, I told her “tum itna ready hoke aayi ho… acchi lag rahi ho.” She didn’t say thank you but instead asked if I had eaten breakfast. Later we had a small conversation in the corridor. The thing is: time is short. We only have a few months left in this course and I’d like to spend more time with her. But she’s in a relationship. Sometimes she texts me first, though not very often. Occasionally she casually says things like “bhaiii kya ho raha hai,” but it doesn’t feel like a strict brother-zone situation. Our friend group probably suspects that I like her because it’s a bit obvious. I want to ask her to grab tea or coffee sometime, just the two of us. But I’m unsure how to do it. My concerns: If I ask and she says no, it might make things awkward in the group. If she says yes, people might judge her since she already has a boyfriend. She seems like a very simple and genuine person and I respect that. One of my friends who knew her during UG says her relationship doesn’t seem very strong and they have no chemistry in between them, but I don’t know how accurate that is. So I’m confused. Should I: Just forget about it and move on? Try to get to know her more and see if there are signs she likes me? Ask her for tea/coffee anyway and be honest? I’m not looking for something casual — if anything happened, I’d want it to be genuine. What would you do in this situation?
