Why do people travel if they can't afford an emergency when travel disruptions happen?

Saw on the news that people were creating GoFundMe too fund their hotel stay or plane ride out of the middle east cause they were stuck lol.. People can't be seriously traveling with no emergency fund in case something goes wrong.
