External Hemorrhoid Help
External Hemorrhoid Treatment/Cure pre Ski Trip/Walking medium distances (FRICTION :()
M30, 158 lbs, 5'11, Caucasian, USA, No drug use or smoking
Issue: External hemorrhoids for ~1.5 weeks.
Symptoms:
Not painful, but mild burning/irritation at times. About 2 puffy areas around the anus, roughly pea to small marble-sized. They shrink somewhat with treatment but can swell again with movement, friction, or sitting wrong. Flare-ups are usually mild to moderate and then settle down.
I suspect I may have had anal irritation or small fissures for about a year, because hot shower water would sometimes sting when washing, and for the past ~6 months, if I wiped too much, I might get tiny dots of blood, though it would heal and stop for weeks.
The hemorrhoid swelling itself appeared last Monday.
Current treatment:
- Preparation H cream and witch hazel wipes after bowel movements
- Prep H 2–3× daily
This seems to shrink them somewhat, but irritation returns with activity.
Bowel habits:
Trying to keep bowel movements normal. I’ve taken psyllium husk fiber for ~1 month, which improved stool consistency somewhat (kept at a lower dose).
Alcohol: occasional, but less since this started.
Medications/supplements:
Metoprolol ER Succinate 50 mg daily (3 years), Zyrtec daily, vitamin D (doctor-recommended deficiency), omega-3 fish oil, CoQ10, saffron (mood), taurine, L-theanine with coffee, magnesium glycinate at night for sleep. All long-term with no side effects.
Question:
What is the best way to resolve these as quickly as possible? I’m supposed to go skiing next week (one day) and want to avoid worsening them. Current symptoms are mild enough that procedures like ligation seem unnecessary.
Maybe the answer is just waiting it out, but I’m wondering if there are better treatment options. I’m planning to use a lidocaine cream short-term while skiing.
Any advice appreciated.
Just ordered Dr. Butler's with lidocaine to use over my ski trip.
