Lanterns: Hype, dumb criticisms, smart criticisms

Lanterns

Hype: I like what I’m seeing of the Hal-John relationship. Their character conflict seems to be the bedrock of the show from what we are seeing and I’m already invested. Kyle Chandler as Hal is awesome to me from what we’ve seen. Visually I actually think the show looks cool for what it is going for. I’m very excited to find what the driving mystery is. And we already know we are getting Sinestro and more Guy. Every reason to be excited.

Dumb criticism: Guys, the CGI is not done. We aren’t seeing any constructs, aliens, or the suits in motion because the CGI is not done. I feel very confident we will see aliens and constructs in episode on e. (If I hear “surf dracula“ one more time I’m punching somebody.) And this is a fair take on the world abd characters. Geoff Johns might be your favorite GL writer, but he’s not the only one and the character has a wealth of more grounded, human stories. Id prefer they do that well than do a space opera poorly.

Smart criticism: I think it would have been smart to make this show family friendly. Peacemaker is a D-list Charlton character, so making him into DC’s Deadpool was more publicity than he was likely to get otherwise. But GL is one of DC’s central properties. Kids should be dressing up as Hal and John for Halloween. I think they could have kept the crime drama angle without making the show TV-MA. From a branding perspective, I think this was a misstep.
