Help me find a lost New Zealand film from the late 1970s called “My Friends Are Dying” (Ray Comfort)
Hi friends!
I’m trying to locate an old New Zealand film called “My Friends Are Dying,” associated with Ray Comfort. I’ve been researching it for a while and am hoping someone here might recognize it or know where a copy could exist.
From archival records, I’ve been able to confirm that the film did exist. A New Zealand government censorship schedule dated May 28, 1981 lists the film and provides some details about it.
According to the document, My Friends Are Dying was a 32-minute 16mm film produced by the Drug Prevention Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand, with Ray Comfort listed as the applicant.
There is also evidence that the film was publicly screened. A National Library of New Zealand catalog entry references promotional material for a screening that reportedly took place at the Concert Chamber on August 28, 1982.
One challenge in searching for it is that My Friends Are Dying was also published as a book, which means most search results lead to the book rather than the film.
I’m trying to locate any surviving copy of the film or related materials, including things like a 16mm reel, a VHS transfer, or a digitized version.
If anyone has seen this film, knows someone who might have a copy, or has any leads at all, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Even small pieces of information could help track it down.
Thank you!
