Signal Soldier in the Sky

I am a soldier who knew SGT Coady, one of the 6 soldiers killed in Kuwait over the weekend. This is not meant to be political in any way, but merely a reflection on what it means to be a Soldier. Coady and I were the same age, rank, job, etc. I felt the need to honor Coady, and I hope you all will understand.

The Signal Soldier in the Sky

In a shipping container far from home

The signal soldier got off the phone

From talking to loved ones far away

Telling them he was all okay

He sat in front of his laptop

Ready to work till told to stop

He had heard the news of bombs and drones

But no soldier can ever just go home

And as he worked UAVs hovered

Before the signal soldier could take cover

So may you rest in peace, and fly high

Rest now, signal soldier in the sky
