What do I do now that I’ve found friendship with someone else?

Yesterday I went to see Scream 7 with a couple friends, S and A. She doesn’t know them, but sitting there with them, something kind of settled in for me. They gave me something I think I had been wanting with you just a simple, nerdy friendship. People to talk about movies with, random things, nothing complicated.

I don’t know if she ever really believed me when I said that’s all I wanted from her. I know it’s hard for people to believe that a guy could just want to be friends with a woman and nothing more. But that really was the truth. I just wanted a friend.

And somewhere along the way, I ended up finding that kind of friendship elsewhere.

It leaves things in a strange place now. You’re still around, technically, but we barely talk anymore. There’s no bitterness in that realization just a kind of acceptance. Time moves, people drift, and sometimes things simply reach their natural end.

There’s still appreciation for what we had, and those memories will always be looked back on fondly. But the space that once hoped for that friendship doesn’t feel empty anymore. It’s been filled, just not in the way it was originally expected.
