Small superficial head cut — could it raise D-dimer?
23M, healthy, no medications.
I recently did a D-dimer test as part of an investigation for chronic shortness of breath that I’ve been experiencing for several months. The day before the test I lightly hit my head on a window and got a small superficial cut (minor bleeding, no concussion or swelling).
Could such a small skin injury significantly increase D-dimer levels and cause a false positive?
