My AR9 with all the toys, almost there, easy so far

So I've been building an AR9 since 2020 with some parts I bought years earlier.

I was in California so it wasn't legal to assemble all the way until I left the state and moved to America in 2021.

It started as just a budget build, then I added a nice trigger and a Law Tactical folder but it ran great out of the box. I even placed second in the PCC class of a tactical match on the first time out to the range.

As the Biden regime wound down, I was hearing about FRTs but I didn't want the storm troopers to show up at my door (and FRTs were expensive) so I waited.

Braced ARs kind of became legal again and after hearing about how delayed blowback is so cool, I bought a Maxim RDB bearing delayed buffer and an Anarchy Outdoors bolt tail piece to work with my folder.

When Trump was elected and Rare Breed settled their lawsuit I got a Super Safety. Then The Great Big Beautiful Bill came and I ordered an Outlier Backdraft barrel and currently my free suppressor is on the way to my FFL but I finally got it out to the range to try to get it running Super Safe.

Some details: it has a Toolcraft bolt with the weight removed. The upper and lower are forged aluminum from Battle Arms Development. Before the RDB the buffer was a full weight AR9 adjustable buffer from Odinworks. The Super Safety is a DNT I think, with a SS cut trigger, probably also DNT. No mag adapter, I'm running Mean Arms Endo-mags (so I can easily swap the buffer and put a rifle caliber upper on it).

When confirming it worked in Semi-auto it was short stroking a bit so I took out the buffer, dropped a quarter in to the buffer tube and put the buffer back. This was to reduce the amount of bearing delay so the buffer can put more energy in to the cycling and that eliminated the short stroking.

After that I tried Super Safe and although I couldn't finish full mag dumps, I could get bursts from 3-10 rounds and the rate measured around 690 RPM.

So much for "Super Safe AR9s are hard to tune".

The Backdraft suppressor might put a bit more energy back in to the action so I might try removing the quarter or making a thinner shim when I test it with a can.

I'm going to look at the Super Safety to make sure nothing is hanging up inside but I think I'm pretty close to doing suppressed mag dumps of 147 grain JHPs.

Any way, that's how my budget PCC is turning in to my "MP5SD at home".

I might try a BCA .22lr upper for even cheaper fun but I think what I did is about the cheapest way to get all the toys in a center fire. It just would have been cheaper if I skipped a bunch of intermediate steps.
