Built an AI tool that researches EU law across 33 countries — solo dev, 6 months in

Hey! I've been building askeulaw.com for the past 6 months and wanted to share where it's at.

What it does: You ask a cross-border legal question about Europe (property, immigration, employment, family law, etc.) and it searches through 183 curated legal documents across 33 jurisdictions to give you an answer with actual legal references.

Why I built it: I'm an expat and spent way too many hours trying to understand how German rental law works, what my rights are when buying property across borders, how inheritance works between EU countries. The information exists but it's scattered across government PDFs in different languages.

How it works:

  • Multi-agent system (Google ADK) with RAG retrieval
  • ChromaDB + Vertex AI multilingual embeddings (768-dim)
  • FastAPI on Cloud Run (scales to zero when idle)
  • 12 UI languages (DE, FR, ES, IT, NL, PL, RU, HE, and more)

Where I'm at:

  • Live in production at askeulaw.com
  • Running my first Reddit ads campaign (8 language-targeted ad groups across DE, FR, NL, HE, ES, RU, IT, PL)
  • Free tier: 2 queries on signup, then pay-as-you-go or subscription
  • Just crossed 20 signups

Would love your feedback — especially if you've dealt with cross-border legal stuff in Europe. Also curious what other solo devs think about the multi-agent architecture approach vs. a single monolithic LLM prompt.

Example questions it handles well:

  • "Can I buy property in Germany as a non-EU citizen?"
  • "What are my rental rights in France as an expat?"
  • "How does cross-border inheritance work between Germany and Israel?"
