Being a college student with midterms coming up, I once again got super paranoid about what I was needing on these exams to set myself up for success going into finals eventually. With this paranoia came checking, double checking, and triple checking all these different scenarios on my calculator. Needless to say, I was getting sick of constantly having to recalculate what part went to quizzes, which to homework, etc.

So like any rational CS student, rather than studying for said midterms I began building a web app to automate this. You can drop your syllabus (or paste it), and AI will instantly extract the grading scale to build a custom, interactive grade calculator for that class that you can save all semester, allowing you to constantly update and know where you’re at as new assignments roll in. It uses React and some Supabase edge functions to call Gemini's flash 2.5 model, which turns the syllabus into a JSON object representing all of the important grade information to keep. It tries its best to handle all sorts of weird point systems, but allows manual editing of the scales as well if the AI misses anything.

**Check it out here:** [coursecalc.app](http://coursecalc.app/)

It’s completely free to use (no ads either) and I would really love some of you guys to test it out (try to break it)! If you run into issues or have an idea, there’s a feedback button in the corner to message me directly. If not, I hope you enjoy!

Let me know what you think!

I got tired of constantly calculating my grades from 12-page college syllabi so I built an AI tool to generate calculators for me
