Project duplicates every time I edit it

Can anyone help me Im a new user using free version. Every time I go to make an edit to two of my projects videos it creates and adds to the original videos ie it seems to duplicate it. So I now have around 2 hours total video made of around 20 several edited versions. How do I stop this ?

Many thanks
