Pokémon is a franchise with diversity. There are TONS of people of different skin colors, something that really started at full strenght with SM, which is fantastic. Being able to choose a skin tone helps massively as well.

Gen VIII went even further with Leon, Hop, Nessa, Rose... There is no shortage of variety.

That being said, there is one thing that is an issue still: the protagonists are ALWAYS white.

As in, the "default" is being white. You can change their colors, sure, but the promotion material, anime and all other media will always feature the white protagonists. Yes, there are lots of videos showing protagonists of different skin colors, but, let's be honest: do you see Serena, for example, as a black girl?

I wonder if they are counsicous about this (avoiding showcasing default protagonists being dark skinned because they wouldn't sell" or if it is just an uncounscious replication of society's thinking that white is the norm.

Before anyone says "Nope, since you can change it", I know. But in the situation of a protagonist being dark skinned, so could you choose a lighter color, so there is no reason for them not be dark skinned for once. The thing here is the developers acting like white is the rule and non-white is an exception, which sucks.

How about dark skninned default protagonistst for once?
