How would you model this cut?

I want to remodel this part. It has a cut which is a basic profile with a growing angle as you go down the cylinder, around the same axis. it is basically a cam groove that pushes a small part forward as it rotates.
Last time I did a swept cut of the smallest profile (the one at the back) and then used a series of [convert entities+extruded cut] to cut away the rest of the material. I would like to find a more proper way to model this, since the way I modeled this was a bit junky and improvised, and I want to model this with an approach that focuses on how a milling machine would cut this, although any ideas are welcomed. (yeah I know this is a complex part, it used to be worse, now it will be expensive and with some more improvements it will be okay).
