How many of you commies here have read John Rawls’ - A Theory of Justice?
If you haven’t, I suggest you do! Dense book but worth it.
It might actually shake up the way you see justice. Not just as some isolated problem with inequality or capitalism, but as a question of designing a whole system that’s fair.
Rawls invented this concept of the "Veil of Ignorance", a thought experiment where you imagine yourself without any knowledge of your place in society (your wealth, social status, abilities, or even personal biases).
The idea is that, from this neutral position, you can reason about what’s truly fair for everyone, not just what benefits you personally. It’s a clever way to strip away ego and privilege and think about justice from a genuinely impartial perspective.
He also argues that the economic system itself, capitalist, communist, or anything in between doesn’t automatically guarantee justice. Inequality and poor distribution of resources can happen under any model if there’s no clear framework for what justice actually means. What really matters are the principles and policies that guide society.
The book isn’t just about the economy, it’s about justice. But you can’t really talk about justice without touching on economic issues, so yeah.
Anyway I highly recommend, a masterpiece book.
