Wedding dance pressure

Relationships/Family

I’m getting married this summer and planning a ceremony and reception with about 60–70 guests. I really want the experience to feel special and memorable for everyone. I’ll have live music during dinner, a photobooth, and some fun props for the dancing later in the evening. The only formal dance I’m planning is a first dance with my fiancé.

However, my mom and sister keep insisting that I should do a special dance performance with my bridesmaids. The idea of that makes me really uncomfortable. I’m quite introverted, and I’m already nervous about being the center of attention throughout the night. Adding a choreographed performance just makes me feel even more uneasy.

I told them I don’t want to do it, but they responded by saying the party will be boring and that if I don’t seem like I’m having fun, my guests won’t either. I explained that I do plan to dance and enjoy myself when everyone is dancing together, I just don’t want a spotlight performance. To me it feels unnecessary and a bit cringe.

They got upset and said I’m always boring and never want to do anything fun, and that if the party ends up being bad it will be my fault. That really hurt my feelings. I’ve tried to stand my ground about this, but they’re still being judgmental and making me feel like I’m making a huge mistake. Now I’m feeling upset and unsure what to do.

I even asked my mom if she would have done the same thing, since she’s a lot like me and also hates being the center of attention. She didn’t really answer and just stayed quiet. At this point, it feels like they care more about putting on a performance than about how I actually feel.
