Strange and disturbing dream

TW: TRIGGERING CONTENT

I put a trigger warning because I will describe violent things that happened in my dream.

I had a dream tonight that was very vivid. In it, I was part of some sort of contest, where weak people got weeded out, while the stronger ones continued on. At first it was some sort of test of endurance about who could walk through a dark bamboo forest unscathed and who couldn't, until we arrived at an arena. Here, the contestants had to fight each other to the death. At first, I was matched up against a young woman, and I killed her without much restraint. In the dream, I remember being surprised at my own strength, because I am actually a very weak person in real life. This is the part where it got very weird and disturbing to me.

I was matched up against a sort of doppelganger, who looked just like me, and claimed they would replace me. This made me quite furious, and I put all my work into killing him. Somehow, he resisted at first, and hurt me badly with a knife, before I did the same to him and damaged his neck. In my dream, I was sure that I hit his carotid artery, and I relayed that to him, which caused my doppelganger to give up. Then, he procceeded to pin me onto the ground, and made himself bleed out over my face, which was incredibly disturbing to me, as I felt the warmth and viscosity of the blood in my dream. Then, there was also something about his eyes. He stared me down while he was dying, and I saw how alive and joyful they were, which is weird, because I have been told that I myself have a very empty stare IRL. I woke up shortly after.

I do not know what to make of this. I think what disturbed me the most was the apparent readiness for violent behaviour that I displayed in my dream. I assumed I was in a real-life situation (how it usually is with dreams) and when told to fight for survival I had no problems or second thoughts about hurting others and straight-up killing them. This is not the first dream I had where I act violent but it was especially weird.

Thanks for reading, I hope I sleep better tonight.
