Hiking poles - china eastern airlines

TLDR: has anyone taken hiking poles on as cabin baggage when flying China Eastern?

Full story: I had to cancel my flight on 28 March Brisbane - Madrid via Dubai because of the war. Late last night I rebooked on China Eastern going via Shanghai to London Gatwick then Air Europa to Madrid then Iberia to Porto. I originally planned to pack my backpack (Osprey Sirrus) in a larger suitcase with my hiking poles and check the suitcase but with so many connecting flights now I am going to take my Osprey only as cabin baggage.
