Private jets, yachts, homes and villas on several continents, full-time live-in staff — that was my childhood. I walked away at 22 and started over. Built my own independent fortune from zero. AMA

Experience

I did this the other day with ChatGpt to help anonymize even more...people had a shit-fit...so let's try again but I'll just use smaller/shorter sentences this time. here we go...

I was born into the kind of generational wealth you only see in movies. Private jets, drivers, multiple homes over many continents, full-time live-in staff (cooking, cleaning, caring for us kids), Security everywhere, total isolation from anything "real".

For most people it sounds like "a dream"...and it is...but it's also a lot more complicated than that.

By the time I was in my 20's I realized 2 things: a) None of it was mine and b) If I stayed, I’d never know who I actually was without "it".

So, I walked away.

I didn't get access to my trust fund, no safety net, in fact I didn't talk to my family at all for a long time. I only had a small amount of money and virtually zero real-world life-skills. The first couple of years were tough, I'll admit, and I learned a lot of lessons, really quick. I was cheated, trusted the wrong people, made dumb and not so dumb mistakes, and had to learn a lot of stuff way too late in life.

But with time, I learned lessons, and built my own career and wealth, entirely without the help of my family. I'm nowhere near their level (not even in the same universe frankly); but I've built a life that is mine and my wife's and frankly I feel a lot "richer" in a lot of ways.

I've lived two lives - ultra-wealthy childhood/young-adult hood and now independent man.

AMA!

A few ground rules though:

I won't name my family or share any major identifying details. I'll be as honest/open as I can, even if it makes me look bad.
