Possible glitch replaying the game as Leon

I noticed when playing through a second time on original standard difficulty that I got a med injector as Leon. I discarded it, and yet it was back in my inventory the next Leon segment. It might have come back because I restarted the segment at one point, but was it even supposed to be there in the first place?
