are melee weapons just stat sticks now?

i hopped on my 80 warrior i haven't played in 2 years or so and noticed his weapon does 10 dps, i inspected some other players and their weapons also do around 10 - 12 dps. yet my abilities do thousands of damage. is this a remnant of and old stat squish that made weapon dmg meaningless and now its just a stat stick?
