What about (ice) skating?
Hi, first post on here. I had my surgery at 15 which is almost 8 years ago by now (t4-l2) and I never had any problems with it despite muscle tensions from time to time.
As a kid, I really liked inline skating and ice skating (which I only did a couple times because there was no rink near us). I am absolutely no pro at both though, meaning I can’t do any tricks or anything fancy, just skating around :-)
I really want to start doing it again, especially inline skating and sometimes maybe also ice skating. According to doctors I can do everything expect extreme sports and they always say „as long as you don’t fall“… well that’s not something you plan on doing :D I do horse riding, but nothing wild too.
Here’s the thing: I am extremely afraid of falling since the fusion because I am super scared of breaking hardware or any other injuries related to it and then having to go through the same hell again or worse. I also have a lot of numbness in my back since then which probably adds to the feeling of being „fragile“.
But on the other side, I feel like this fear really limiting my life and keeping me from things I loved to do before. I actually even recently fell on my back on some stone stairs on NYE, went to hospital to get X Rays, and the fusion didn’t take damage, so that should give me some trust that it’s going to hold after all these years, but I am so scared that I will damage it that I don’t know whether I would be confident enough to try and improve my (ice) skating. I also even did inline skating a couple times and ice skating once after the fusion, but I was really really careful and went much slower as before and the fear of falling really limited me. I am also really curious whether it is even possible to learn tricks and stuff with limited back movement like mine, because it always looks like you need to be really flexible to do such things.
So I would be really happy to hear other experiences and opinions on this.
