Seeing Challenger 7 park history
I grew up in west Tulsa and spent a lot of time as a kid at Challenger 7 Park. I lived nearby and the daycare I went to would take us there for field trips pretty often.
As a kid I remember the park feeling huge, but also kind of unsettling in a way I could never quite explain. There were often random cars and vans parked there with people just sitting and watching while kids played, which always felt a little weird.
The park had playground equipment, a run-down tennis court, a baseball field, and what looked like the remains of an old community pool. I never actually saw the pool in operation. When I was growing up it was always empty and abandoned, and eventually it got converted into a garden.
When I got a little older (elementary school age), other kids started telling stories about satanic rituals happening in the woods behind the park, which definitely added to the creepy feeling.
I’m really curious about the actual history of this park. Does anyone know anything about it, the old pool, or the rumors about the woods behind it? I’d also love to see any old pictures of the pool when it was still open.
For some reason this park has always stuck with me and I’ve always been fascinated by it.
