ASA Island Brute Artifact

How to other people deal with the Xiphactinus in this cave? I was doing fine on my Basil, and then I got jumped by like 8 of the toothy fish and then I had no more basil.

Do I just need to tame some megalodons? Bring my Karkinos? Rock Golem?
