Battery brands

Hi, I’ve been looking at building an e-bike and it seems like the conventional wisdom is to avoid the non-American battery brands. Is there a brand that is just honest good quality and a decent value? It seems like the cheap ones are not necessarily going to be safe and the expensive ones are… expensive.
