I’ve seen a lot of people saying they didn’t care about the friend group in Scream 7, but I actually did. Hannah and Chloe’s deaths genuinely stuck with me. Hannah being murdered in the school theatre felt eerie and symbolic, like the story suddenly turning dark on a stage. Chloe’s death at her own family’s bar was even worse to me. She had multiple chances to escape, and I kept expecting her to make it to the glass door that was only a few feet away. Instead, Ghostface dragged her across the bar through broken glass cups and she fell into the shattered glass, with a shard ending up in her neck. It felt brutal and unfair in the exact way Scream deaths are supposed to feel.

I totally understand why the movie didn’t work for some people, but this was just my experience watching it.

Seeing McKenna Grace show up and get killed so early honestly shocked me. It reminded me of the opening of Scream with Casey Becker, played by Drew Barrymore. We didn’t know Casey very long either, but her death still left a huge impact. For me, Hannah and Chloe had a similar effect.

Overall, I personally liked Scream 7 and wasn’t really upset by the reveal. Was it a little lackluster? Sure. The opening scene and the killer reveal felt somewhat disconnected from the rest of the story. But even with that, I still enjoyed the movie a lot. Sometimes when I watch something I love, I either have a million thoughts or I’m kind of speechless for a while. This was one of those times where it was a bit of both.

The deaths in general were crazy to me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ghostface this angry. Usually there’s more of a cat-and-mouse feel, especially with the phone calls, and we didn’t really get much of that here. It almost felt intentional, like the movie was trying to break away from the formula a bit instead of repeating what the original films did.

And realistically, nothing is ever going to top the original Scream or even the trilogy that followed it. I think Scream 7 was trying to step out of that shadow and do something different. Where the movie might have struggled is expecting fans to immediately accept that shift.

When it comes to Hannah and Chloe, I honestly thought they might end up being the first duo female killers for a while. But once the theatre scene happened, it made more sense why Hannah was taken out first, especially considering how recognizable McKenna Grace is.

The bar scene was honestly one of my favorites. It’s a little cheesy that Chad and Mindy would willingly go to a bar while a Ghostface killer is on the loose, but the tension still worked for me. Watching Chloe try to survive while everything around her shattered made the scene feel chaotic and tragic.

As for the killer reveal, I wasn’t as focused on who the killer was as much as why they did it. The idea of someone who had been abused, struggled with psychiatric issues, and became obsessed with someone they idolized was actually interesting to me. When that person disappeared, it pushed them over the edge again. It’s strange and uncomfortable, but that’s part of why it worked for me.

At the end of the day though, the thing that mattered most to me was seeing Neve Campbell back as Sidney Prescott. Watching Sidney fight not only for herself but for her daughter raised the stakes in a different way. Her hesitation to tell Tatum everything also made sense to me. After everything Sidney has gone through across every film, it’s understandable she’d want to protect her daughter from that reality for as long as possible.

I know this movie won’t work for everyone, and that’s totally fair. But for me, I still had a great time with it. I’ve loved this franchise for years, and even when an entry isn’t perfect, I’m still excited to see where the story goes.

I’m curious how other people felt about those scenes though, because Hannah and Chloe’s deaths honestly stuck with me.

I liked Scream 7 more than Scream 6..and I care about the movie.
