I always thought it was just affection. Nope.

Apparently dogs can literally taste your emotions through your skin chemistry. When you're anxious, your cortisol levels change — and they pick it up instantly through licking.

Also found out it's an ancient pack instinct going back to wolves. Mind blown honestly.
