Hot take: using external comms is cheating, by definition.

Discussion

I know this will be downvoted into oblivion already, so I won't spend that much time on it, but outside of tournaments where rules are set in place to restrict Survivor loadouts to compensate for the advantage it gives, using external programs for verbal communications is, by definition, cheating. A cheat is the use of an external program, not created by or officially authorized to use by the game's developers, to gain a competitive advantage.

So, using Discord or other voice comms programs to transmit information to your teammates you could not transmit by the Perks you used your limited Perk slots to equip, or the in-game UI provided by the developers of the game, is gaining a competitive advantage using an external program not created by or officially authorized to use by the game's developers, and is therefore a cheat by the definition. And for those who claim they're "just talking with their friends, not being competitive", I'd like them to show me a single game they played using external comms where they went out of their way to preserve the integrity of the game by avoiding giving ANY information to their teammates via comms that said teammate could not have received by the Perks equipped by the team or the in-game UI. While waiting for such evidence, I'll read War & Peace, because I'll finish that novel before such evidence exists.

Is BHVR willing to do anything about this? Of course not, they aren't even willing to do anything about the cheats that the community at large considers cheats. But at the very least, I'd like SWFs using external comms to have the slightest inkling of self-reflection and admit that any successes they see while using external comms in a SWF is, in part, due to their external game advantage, and they wouldn't do half as well without such a crutch. I also wish BHVR would just admit that most SWFs use external comms, and balance rewards around that fact by, at the very least, giving Killer players additional BP and/or XP when they face SWFs to compensate for the additional challenge the Killer is dealing with by facing such a group as opposed to a group without such out-of-game advantages.
