Conflicted about staying as a one-man IT vs moving to a bigger & well-known ride-hailing company in the Philippines
Hi everyone, I just want to get some advice because I’m honestly very confused right now. I recently got hired as an IT Support Specialist at a Chinese BPO company. I’ve only been here for about 5 days and I’m currently the only IT person supporting around a total of like 50 employees. My responsibilities include handling the network, CCTV, servers, hardware and software troubleshooting, asset management, and basically anything related to IT in the office. On one hand, I feel like this role could give me really good experience since I’m exposed to almost everything. Being a one-man IT means I’m learning a lot about infrastructure, hardware, networking, and support. I also think this could look good on my resume because I’m handling multiple systems and responsibilities. But at the same time, I’m also a bit concerned. My salary is ₱25k + ₱5k KPI + night differential, and I still haven’t signed a formal contract yet even though I already started working. Everything moved very fast during hiring. Now here’s where it gets more complicated. I was invited for a final interview with a known ride-hailing company for an IT Support role. Since they are a well-known company here in the Philippines, I’m thinking it might be a more stable and structured environment compared to where I am now.
So now I’m really torn.
Part of me wants to stay because the current job gives me broad IT experience and responsibility. But another part of me thinks working for a bigger company like JoyRide might be better for long-term career growth and stability. I’m also worried about the fact that I’ve only been at my current job for a few days. If I ever get an offer from them, I’m not sure if leaving this early is the right thing to do. For those who work in IT or have been in similar situations:
Is it better to stay in a one-man IT role for experience? Or move to a bigger company with a more structured IT team? Would leaving after a few days be a bad career move? I’d really appreciate any advice. I’m still early in my IT career so I want to make the best decision possible.
Thanks in advance.
