Could this year be used as a retooling season?
It would be tough to watch but potentially necessary, could this upcoming season be seen as a retooling season? It’s tough to count us out with a healthy Lamar Jackson and Minter taking over should improve the defense, but at the moment I don’t believe we have the roster to win the Super Bowl. Moves will be made and we’ll see where the draft lands us. With free agency stating this week, Linderbaum, Likely, and many other key role players are free agents and most will be gone. A big issue is of course Lamar’s $74 million cap hit, which makes it tough to spend outside of that. This extension could happen at anytime because Lamar doesn’t have an agent to talk with reporters, I would think though this isn’t getting done before Monday. Madubuike is still a question mark, and Markon and Roquan both have huge cap hits despite growing older. Going into free agency, we have needs at pass rusher, center, guards, defensive line, then need depth at TE, WR, CB, and Safety. Also I’d think we’ll bring in competition for Tyler Loop. Overall our roster isn’t in great shape and we do not have a ton of cap flexibility. If a Lamar extension doesn’t happen soon, do you think it would be better in the long to just take on his whole cap hit this year, have a not great roster, and look towards 2027, or add void years and make the best of a mid situation for 2026?
