aitah for telling my boss i wont be her lacky
i work with about 5 other people despite every other department in the store being 20+ , we are VERY understaffed but our store manager doesnt see it that way so he refuses to let us hire anyone new. recently 2 of my coworkers had to leave the job (one out on medical leave for a couple months and one got fired) so now we are down 2 people entirely so im left being the only person in my department that does stocking.
i told my boss that i would love to be full time because currently im "part-time" working 35+ hours consistently, but she sprinkles in 28 hours here and there so they legally dont need to put me full time.
she then told me that i wont be considered for full time because i call out and leave early "all the time" (for reference, ive called out twice and left early 3 times in the 7 months ive been there 🫩) and that in order for me to be full time i would "need to get my attendance under control"
i then told her that if im not going to be considered for full time, then she needs to schedule me as part time hours and that i don't appreciate her treating me like a lacky and would love it if she didnt look at me as a pushover anymore.
i always ask questions, stay late to help the leads do THEIR JOBS, do way more than whats expected of me, always try to strive for more and im just constantly met with "thats not your job" and backlash because i want actual benefits lol
it gets very disheartening to be met with criticism all the time because you want to learn and help more. its not like im expecting a reward for doing these things? i just want to be appreciated for the work i do, i dont NEED to be there and could quit at any point if i pleased.
i know its just a retail job but i wanted to try and climb the ladder there, but whats the point??? was ITAH in this situation or are my feelings justified?? i can see how i couldve been harsh but it has been bubbling up for awhile
