Hot take: Bridgerton is basically Regency-era Gossip Girl

Meta/Other

I started watching Bridgerton recently and realized the social structure feels almost identical to Gossip Girl. Instead of an anonymous blog exposing Manhattan elites, you have Lady Whistledown narrating and exposing the scandals of London’s high society.

Both shows revolve around a small, insulated group of wealthy families whose reputations are shaped almost entirely by gossip. And ironically, the only people who seem to care about their scandals are us, the viewers.

It made me wonder if the real point of both shows is that elite societies live inside their own bubble, while the audience becomes the real consumer of their drama.

Curious if anyone else felt the same parallel or if you think the shows are fundamentally different?
