Which fusions or subgenres had roots in big band, like disco had roots in soul?

Of course big bands didn't disappear after the early sixties, and Wikipedia isn't a definitive statement on everything. But I'm trying to pin down with an educated guess which variations of jazz after the fifties have a lot in common with big band. Perhaps the earliest jazz fusion of the late sixties, or jazz noir as a whole?
