As an American who has recently moved to the UK, I find it quite surprising how liberal (and similar) both of your leading political parties are…
So I’ve just moved to the UK for a year for work, and I’ve always had a strong interest in politics in the US, so I thought to be whilst I’m here i may as well take some time to get to know the uk political scene, and like the US seems to have two leading political parties which seem to divide the country, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, you have the Labor Party and the Conservative Party.
However I find it quite interesting how both of your parties do seem rather liberal, both parties seem patriotic, progressive with their views on LGTBQ rights, and both seem rather accepting of immigration and asylum seekers (a lot more than even a lot of other liberal countries seem to be), and the main things that you seem to disagree on is simply in regards to taxes and where the countries money should be spent.
Whereas in the US both leading political parties seem polar opposites across the board, and it seems that taxes and finances are the last thing on a lot of peoples minds these days in the US when it comes to the election.
