As a Community, How Did We Convince Ourselves a 60% WR Hero is Bad?
Flat out, there's no way a character with a 60% WR, like Peni, could be considered "weak" in any other gaming space. She's held that WR for multiple seasons and across multiple ranks. On 1st and 3rd party stats. I've looked at views most players haven't, like map WR and top 100 WR. I have tried to find anything pointing to a flaw, yet haven't found a view that makes Peni anything less than one of the best.
I get "WR's/data can be deceiving", but 60% is beyond what could even be explained by bad data collection. Even if she dropped 5% WR, she would still be top 3 in WR.
I looked at other games at their higher levels. Both communities I know more about and games similar to Rivals. None of them have a character at 60%. The characters even reaching that number are considered some of the best in the game, like SSBU Steve or OW Vendetta. Here are real examples for you to check.
Street Fighter 6 , Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Hearthstone, Overwatch, Valorant, Deadlock, League of Legends, DOTA 2, Apex Legends
I think this goes beyond skepticism and into willing ignorance. We have more info at our disposal than most communities ever will with an open API, yet we toss it out faster than anyone.
There's so much I've learned about the game just by looking at the data we have now, beyond simple rank WR and PR. As a community, we can grow so much more by just looking instead of thinking we know everything.
