Unpopular opinion: Netflix needs to stop casting single parents.
This may be an unpopular opinion but I think it’s one that needs to be heard/considered…
And this is NOT a commentary on Jordan, I found him to be nice and sweet but there are very real consequences and effects of Netflix casting parents….If Amber, as a parent, were to meet a man just out there in the wild, get engaged to him in a week, and married in a matter of a month people would be up in arms about how irresponsible it is but because it’s done under the premise of a TV show it’s somehow accepted and okay? This is insane to me.
Dating as a single parent is not the same as dating as a single person. You have to take into consideration there’s a living breathing child in the mix- it’s not all just about you anymore. The responsible thing to do is to take things slow, get to know the person first, and then give the child time to adjust as you incorporate them into their life.
The look on Amber’s daughter’s face as she watched her mom marry a man she’s met ONE time prior was painful to see. One meeting to step dad? How confusing and jarring that must be for a kid. Not to mention the whiplash when the marriages potentially falls apart because it was built on a rushed month long foundation.
I find it incredibly irresponsible and unethical Netflix decided to expand their casting to single parents for what was probably for ratings purposes and to mix things up. I also find it insane any responsible parent would think this is an okay way to incorporate someone into their child’s life. Honestly, it’s selfish And self serving.
Don’t get me wrong, Single moms deserve love. Amber deserves love. Everyone deserves happiness but I genuinely do not think this blind, rushed, courtship/marriage show should be incorporating single parents and their children. Especially since we know as of late, Netflix has either not done a great job of background checks or has allowed certain people through for ratings.
Anyway, that’s my soapbox speech, I hope Netflix casting stops doing this.
