A bit of positivity for ya ✨

Happy!

Seen a couple posts recently in this sub and other parenting subs about being bummed out by all the negativity we see. I mean, I get it. We come to Reddit to ask for advice so of course the posts skew negative. I am not judging anyone and I come here for advice and to vent too!

But I am a new mom. My baby girl is two weeks old. I am honestly having a blast and want to share! I’ve been dying to brag about how great it is but felt… guilty? So since I’ve seen requests for positivity I thought I’d jump on the opportunity 😅

My baby is so damn cute I could die. I love snuggling with her and staring at her sweet face. She has the CUTEST reflex smiles too. I’ve run to the store a couple times and I miss her and my husband so much for that 30 minutes that I get emotional.

We had a bit of a NICU scare in the hospital and she was a month early so she’s delicate and I think I find her even more precious because of this. Despite this however, her pediatrician literally says she is “perfect” and she’s over her birth weight and just generally doing great!

I finally get what people can’t put words to— the love for your child. I would die for her in a heartbeat but I know how much she needs me so living for her is my top priority. I take care of myself better than ever because I’m the most important thing in her life. I am scooping her up within 10 seconds when she fusses in her bassinet. I have endless patience for her and it breaks my heart to see and hear her cry.

Feeding her hurts like hell right now but it’s one of my greatest joys. I love that we are figuring out breastfeeding. My husband has been the biggest help with that too and I love how it has become a family effort.

Speaking of my husband… he has been incredible. I knew he’d be a great dad but he has exceeded my expectations in every single moment. He is as obsessed with our baby as I am. He’s obsessed with me being a mom. He’s thrilled that I’m so happy and I think he loves that he was able to give me the gift of motherhood. I am grateful to have returned the favor too… fatherhood has been so good for him. We’ve never had such a clear purpose in life. He does everything he can for me and the baby. He works hard so I can stay home with her. He runs errands and gives me as many breaks as he can when he’s not working.

I feel like we take even better care of each other now. We want to be our best selves for each other and our child. I know there will be more challenging times but I think we are off to a great start. I’m trying to be really intentional about taking care of our relationship and communicating with love and honesty and clarity so that we are really prepared to handle whatever comes next.

I even have my 14-year-old doggo who I got in college. She is healthy and active too and it’s so wonderful to have my best friend who I’ve been through all of adulthood with around to meet my first child. She runs to the bassinet in concern when the baby cries. She sniffs her when I hold her but she’s also super cautious and usually keeps her distance a bit. I try to give her love and attention so she doesn’t feel pushed out.

I love my life right now! Thank you for reading and I wish you all so much joy 🫶🏼
