Question about “false” positives?
I’m a long term (7year) vulvodynia patient and the cause is a mystery. When I go get tested for things I just test for everything bc I’m in pain and just want to rule everything out and am lucky that when I ask for ureaplasma tests I am able to get them. I’m also no stranger to patients that have vaginas often times are the better people to ask for expertise than Drs. For the first time my test came back positive along with a positive yeast culture. I’ve been in so much pain and having vulvodynia sometimes it’s actually a relief to find out it’s from an infection.
I’m pretty sure antibiotics In the past are what have caused my life long problem. So I freaked out about needing antibiotics. The Dr told me, just treat the yeast and see if symptoms go away bc the positive ureaplasma test is common in most people and may not mean I need antibiotics. They said if feel better after 3 rounds of fluconazole not to worry about the ureaplasma. And to only start doxy if im still in pain after that.
Is this good advice? I thought a positive test would mean levels are out of range? Do a lot of people test positive on the NAA tests without symptoms? I’m so confused.
