My take on the ending

SpoilerLore question

I just finished the game for the first time and I was very confused at first.

So I understand that elpis is an antivirus created by Spencer because he felt bad for all the harm he caused and had a change of heart. But thats about all I understand.

My thoughts are as follows:

Literally when was it ever clear that elpis is actually a good thing? I watched the tapes, I paid full attention to them and all I got out of it was that Spencer is Graces adopted father and that he feels bad for his past actions so he created elpis. But tell me, how does that all imply what elpis actually is? Like why am I going to assume that elpis is actually a good thing and release it into world when the game has hyped it up since the beginning as being this crazy deadly bioweapon? Why am I going to trust the evil scientist Spencer with practically blind faith over fcking Leon S Kennedy?

I know this isnt just me. Why did the devs barely give any kind of proof of elpis's true purpose. Its literally just like "yea elpis MIGHT not be a super bioweapon," and "elpis is the last hope for the future" Thats all the game gives you. And I get "hope for the future" seems pretty obvious, but I mean think about it. The crazy RE villians say this stuff all the time. Saddler from RE4 proclaimed las plagas as the hope for the future, so whats making me think Spencer saying the same thing about elpis is any different.

And you only learn the truth AFTER you lock in the bad ending, which at first seems like the good ending. Wtf

And it almost feels like the devs knew that they didn't explain it well enough because literally right after you beat the game picking the bad ending, after the credits, it asks you if you want to go back and change your decision. Like what lol. Why not just explain it better so that the good ending is more obvious, so there's less people like myself wondering how the hell the bad ending is supposed to be bad on a first play through. Elpis should have been explained better before password choice, not after.

I get that they didn't want to have the basic good and bad choices for the password decision. And the bad ending actually being the good ending could have worked, they just needed to make things more easy to uncover for the player, because as is stands, i'm pretty confident in saying that most people picked the fake bad ending on their first play through, only to learn the truth about elpis after accidentally picking the bad ending.

TLDR:

Elpis should have been explained way better to the player before the player has to choose between destroying or releasing elpis.

This game is still amazing, but man does the very stringy and loose explanation for the endings kind of piss me off. The good(true) ending is cute and it's a satisfying conclusion but I just wish the game progressed to it in a more natural way.
